ASA Avengers Men's Basketball Goes 2-0 in the 2018-19 Ben Williams Classic

Baltimore, MD – The ASA Avengers men's basketball team travels to Baltimore to play in the Ben Williams Classic hosted by Baltimore City Community College for two games.

On December 8th 2018, the Avengers played their first game of the Classic against Northern Virginia Community College.  The Avengers took a 20-point lead into halftime with bigtime play from Denzel Cooper, a redshirt freshman.  Cooper finished the game with 24 points going 8 for 9 from 3-point land.  The Nova Hawks (Northern Virginia CC) showed resilience to cut the lead to 2 points midway through the second half, but the Avengers defense dominated late in the half to push the lead back up to 15.  #2 freshman point guard, Jahmier Pugh, showed great leadership during the late surge with 4 key steals as the Avengers pushed pass the Nova Hawks to win 84-73.

For the second game of the Classic, the Avengers look to avenge themselves against the host, Baltimore City Community College, after losing to them 77-71 in the Monroe College Invitational on November 30th 2018.  After Baltimore City CC led by 3 in the first half, the Avengers went on a big run in the second half 42-27 to win the game 75-63.  After Denzel Cooper 8 three's last game, Denzel Cooper shot 5/10 for 21 points against Baltimore City.  Two other Avengers in Arsheen Jones and Travon Brown also scored in double-digits.  #15 Center Miguel Simon had 3 blocks as well as a season high 16 rebounds.

With a 8-1 record so far in the season, ASA Avengers men's basketball goes on a midseason break and will return to action with a home game in Brooklyn against Lackawanna College in Achievement First High School, Brooklyn, NY on January 10th 2019.
