Loch Sheldrake, NY-----The ASA men's basketball team pulled out an exciting 83-80 win this evening at national power Sullivan County Community College. ASA finishes their regular season with a 26-3 record, the best in the program's history. Sullivan will go into the post-season with a 27-3. The loss snaps the Generals' 20-game win streak. The win extends the Avengers' winning streak to eleven.
Trailing by four points with forty seconds remaining in the game, things didn't look great for ASA. Their fate would change dramatically in the next few seconds sparked by an acrobatic reverse lay-up by sophomore guard Eian Davis. On the ensuing Sullivan inbound, sophomore guard Daquan Brickhouse stole the ball in the air, took a dribble, knocking down a floater in the lane, and was fouled in the process for the "and-one". Brickhouse calmly knocked down the free-throw for the 81-80 lead with :34 to go in the game. Sullivan managed a shot for the win which was partially blocked out-of-bounds with seven seconds to go. The Generals inbounded the ball again but could not handle the Avengers pressure, stepping out of bounds, giving ASA the ball back with 5.9 seconds to go in the contest. After using their final timeout, sophomore guard Kareem Roach would get the ball ahead to the 5-foot-8 Brickhouse who would end the game with a high-flying one-handed dunk.
The Avengers led the majority of the first half buidling a 38-28 lead with 3:28 before intermission. Sullivan would cut the ASA lead to 41-35 right before halftime.
ASA came out of the break on a mission to put the #2 nationally ranked team away for good, going on a 6-0 run for the 47-35 lead in the first minute of the second half. Sullivan responded behind the hot shooting of sophomore guard Marcus Henderson who finished with thirty points including 7-11 from behind the arc. The Generals would lead by as many as six in the second half with 12:11 to go. ASA would tie the game at 60 with 8:02 on a three-point play "the old fashioned way" by sophomore wing Rysheen Dorn.
The Generals kept a slim lead for the next few minutes with physical defense and 19 offensive rebounds to ASA's nine.
